Vaginal prolapseI’m 44 yrs old and have two kids. My youngest was born in 1997 and when I was pregnant I first felt the vaginal wall drop. The doctor assured me it was something that could happen and needed to insert a sponge to hold it up and do kegels. Sponge I did not insert. Kegels I did. Ten years down the line I have moved around and different docs. have given me various opinions.
Last year finally one gynec. advised surgery and I probably need to get rid of a lot of things. I am a total medical no...Read the full article
Re: Vaginal prolapseYesterday, I went to my obgyn about an apparent vaginal/uterine prolapse with a rectocele & cystocele. He inserted donut pessary and is attending a conference on surgical implantation of a mesh tubing this week. He says that hysterectomy is not a 100% solution and is not always necessary. This new approach will give him information to make a good decision about my treatment options. I do know that I will have some type of surgery, but it may not be a hysterectomy at all. Check out all your options since you have choices!
Re: Vaginal prolapseYou need to consult either a Urologist or a Urogynecologist that specializes in incontinence and prolapse...female health issues. I work in the field and you have many options to chose from, but need an experienced surgeon to properly diagnose your condition. (I stumbled on this site looking for something for my wife...)
I would definately start by educating yourself on your condition. Try running these searches in google so that you understand your own anatomy and possibilities surrounding your condition. * Vault Prolapse * Cystocele * Rectocele * Uterine Prolapse * Caused vaginal prolapse Best wishes! The best news is your condition is absolutely treatable.
Re: Vaginal prolapseI too am 44 years old and had a hysterectomy 3 years ago due to pelvic varicose veins and it was the best thing for me. I had lived for years with knife yielding pain in my pelvic region that would actually stop me while I was walking. Recovering from the hysterectomy took the normal 8 weeks and the hardest thing was getting back to the normal everday activities. I was so tired some days that it took all I had to eat. Unfortunately my body reacts very different than most to anesthia and instead of being groggy and sleepy I can't sleep which didn't help the recovery process. Back in January I was diagnosed with cystocele and told I could have surgery whenever I wanted and it would be a simple tie up, in and out surgery. I waited until the end of summer (August) and returned to my doctor to schedule this SIMPLE surgery. Much to my surprise I am now going to have major reconstructive surgery in two weeks as I now have Pelvic Organ Prolapse. Surgery will be placement of 3 mesh slings under the urethra, bladder, and vaginal wall. The doctor performing the surgery advised this surgery will out last me and there will be no need for future surgery (most people with bladder tie ups have to return for additional surgery because they fall back down over time). I was absolutely devasted with this news and partly because it's not something you hear of being done. My discomfort has become unbearing so I am really looking forward to having the surgery and being able to stand up and walk without my bladder hanging down between my legs. If you like I will keep you posted on the recovery and hope you have found some resolution to your issue.
Re: Vaginal prolapsePlease advise how you are doing now. I have surgery scheduled for two weeks from tomorrow
