Post a new topicby livingwith on Fri Aug 17, 2007 4:36 pm

Following the birth of my third child I went to lift my son 4yrs onto a sofa bed from the floor I felt something happen down below, when I went to the toilet I felt different and realised I had developed a prolapse. It happened about 6-8 weeks after my baby’s birth, I had a normal delivery following a previous caesarian birth.
I did mention to my obstetrician that I had some concerns about my pelvic floors and wondered if I should have another caesarian, but she said if i have already ...Read the full article

Similar feelings of what you are going thru:

I am a 42 year old woman and have had a bulge in my vagina for about 2 years. I see a nurse practioner, who told me that I had a 1st degree prolapse, but never told me what to do about it. She said that it basically happens to all women because of the way that we're built and the force of gravity. I wish that I had been seeing a good gynocologist. I know that mine was caused by my second baby who I had at 33 years old and she weighed 9.12 lbs!! Very terrible deivery, in labor from 5 am until she was born at 11:30 pm. Plus, they had to use forceps and suction to get her out. They also had to call in another doctor to help. My last checkup before having her my doctor said that I measured to be the size of someone having twins!! Wouldn't you have thought that this would have been a clue to preform c-section? On top of this misery, I had a 3rd degree episiotomy, which was done so horribly that it left me with a gaping vaginal entrance and poor bowel control, so I had to go back in to have a repair episiotomy and try to repair sphinter muscle. Even though this was done by another DR, it was with poor results too. I just recently told my boyfriend of 10 years about the prolapse and things don't seem the same between him and I. I feel your pain over how you were treated. I guess I am feeling like damaged goods and when a boyfriend or health professional isn't totally compassionate, it really hurts.

I had to reply as I feel the same as you do. I am a 36 year old mum of 2 and I have also recently developed a prolapse. My son was born nearly 6 years ago which was quite traumatic and I had extensive tearing which took forever to heal. My pelic floor was never the same and I have suffered with slight stress incontinence since. At no time was I ever told about prolapses and that they could happen - I did not know they even existed until just recently when I developed mine. I had a daughter 16 months ago but I opted for a c-section because of the damage already done and I did not want to make it any worse - well it obviously made no difference as the prolapse still happened! I have constant pressure on my bladder and can't walk anywhere without discomfort or worrying about something falling out or wetting myself. I am miserable with it.

I feel horrible like I have an alien invading my body and it has affected me mentally as I do not feel womanly anymore. Sex has pretty much been off the menu since my son was born as the damage I sustained then really altered the way I see myself but now I could not even consider it.

I am now waiting to see a gynaecologist to determine exactly what is going on but for me if surgey can correct everything and put it back where it belongs then I want it. The thought of having my bits and pieces cut again terrifies me to no end but I cannot live with this. Having my son caused me to suffer from PTSD and I have had lots of therapy to overcome it and I still struggle when I have stress in my life and this is causing lots of that!

This really is a miserable condition and I only hope that I can get these problems resolved and get on with my life normally without worry about whether something is going to fall out or not!

Best wishes.

Jacqui, I was wondering how you were getting on. It has been awhile since you posted and it doesn't look like you came back again to this site so may never read this. I replied to your post and have since done lots and lots of research and am now terrified to even think about surgery. I am finding living with this very hard to say the least and having two small children running around is making my life very difficult indeed.

My bladder prolapse has worsened since I last posted and I know understand the balloon type feeling not to mention all the bubble type sensation throughout the day.

This is so horrible and I am at my wits end.
