My poor 16 year old daughterThis whole year has been absolutely rotten for my daughter. She started having serious UTIs around the time she had her first intercourse and has had four of them since. I don’t know if it is a series of different infections or if maybe the same one has just stuck around under the radar and become quite resistant. She’s on cipro right now, which is such a deal with the devil, as maybe it will cure the current infection, but will also kill all the good flora in her intestines and a...Read the full article
Re: My poor 16 year old daughterHi Steph, Im sorry to hear your daughter is in so much pain and not up to feeling herself. As for the UTI'S I had also had 4 at the age of 16 because I was also beginging to be sexually active. I kept on with the doctors and I was prescribed apocephalexin and sulfatrim a few times. My doctor also advised me that if my pants or underwear are too tight it may also trigger UTI as well as not urinating when I feel the urge- holding urine (which in highschool some teachers may not allow kids to go to the washroom for certain reasons such as time-wondering in the hallway ect.) Get her to drink lots of water and cranberry juice. As well as soaking in a hot bath with non perfume soaps- that really helped me. Just laying down for a few days with water, juice (unsweetend) and a few tylenol for the pain it will help a great deal. She also needs to check her sleeping patterns and get on the right track because lack of sleep messes up your immune system- maiking it weaker and unable to fight off bacteria. Oh and lots of vitamin c. You may want to see if the doctor or remedy store has a multi vitamin for a girl her age - in a low dose. That will help boost her immune system. Hope I could help.
