numbness, tingling, buzzine in foot

Post a new topicby peerranger on Sat Dec 05, 2009 8:11 pm

Can you help me? For over 2 years now, my one foot has been 'buzzing', tingling, sometimes like electric picks, sometimes like a band wrapped around my foot. I have been to three dr.'s, one did a nerve cond test and said it's all good. But it's not! It's worse at night of course, find I can fall asleep if I have an ice pack on by foot, otherwise it bothers me too much...Does this sound like anything anyone else has experienced and knows what it may be?? No real pain although sometimes 'achy'.

Thank you

This sound like you have peripheral neuropathy which is an affliction of the nerves in the feet. Sometimes just the small sensory fibers are involved rather than the larger ones. In these cases, EMG studies are usually normal. The next step is to consider a skin biopsy to look at the small fibers and to get blood work to figure out why this is occurring. Beyond that, treatment is for the symptoms. There are several medications available. I would recommend seeing a neurologist who has a interest in polyneuropathy. Your internist may know someone in the area.

Hope this is helpful.
