Does this sound like neuropathy?I'm in my mid 50's and aside from some back and neck pain have been very healthy and no serious injuries. Here is some background information. I was doing yoga regularly, but then stopped while undergoing a very stressfull divorce. During that time my back and neck pain (which I believe has always been stress related) got very bad. I saw a physical therapist for awhile and he thought a cervical disk rupture was the probable cause of my pain. After working with him for awhile, doing various exercises in office and at home, I was finally free of pain. This was four years ago. I still tend to occasionally get back/neck pain due to muscle tension, but it's not a serious problem anymore.
A few months ago, I decided to start doing yoga again. I decided to do a home practice to get in shape for classes. As I went into the downward dog position (which involves flexed wrists and weight on the hands, wrists and arms), I experienced a pain in my left arm. It was almost like a cramping type pain and was centered around the back of the upper arm. When I got out of the position, the pain went away. I have tried to go into this yoga position on several occasions and the same thing happens. Sometimes it feels like a muscle cramp. Here is why I've given the background information regarding my slipped disk: when I had the extreme pain four years ago, I often had pain in my left arm. My P.T. said that the nerve could be compressed by the disk problem. I told a nurse practioner about this and thought maybe it was carpal tunnel. She examined me for that and didn't think that was the cause. I mention this because I developed carpal tunnel in both wrists during my first pregnacy. I've never had any symptoms of it since. With all this in mind, does this sound like something I should see a neurologist for? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.
