Burning Sensation and severe pain on the feet.

Post a new topicby Sadique Saleem on Mon Sep 10, 2007 4:28 am

I have been having severe pain on my feet for the past one to two years. I am not a Diabetic. My latest Fasting Blood Sugar levels indicate at 98.The pain is severe at nights. Toes are numbed. The irony is the pain increases only when I go to bed.I am 57 years old.Male.Working as Bank Exceutive. My day to day office work involves severe pressure and tension.I have been taking GLA 100 twice a day on Doctor's advice. In addition I also dip my feet in mild warm water for a about minutes before going to bed which gives me a little relief. I apply some Balm or Wintogeno to reduce the pain. This is persisting. Please tell me a remedy. I am 85 KGs in weight and 5' 9" in height. My cholosterol is under control.

I wonder if you might do well with a restless leg syndrome drug

Hello,
My husband too has numbness, burning sensation and sever pain in his feet. Have you been seen by a neurologist that deals with peripheral neuropathy? If not, then that is the only type of doctor that will be able to help you. There are many reasons for these symptoms, as I'm sure you know, from b12 deficiency, HIV, hepatiti C, lime disease etc... the bad news is that we are being told that 10-20% of patients with these symptoms will go undiagonsed. It is called idiopathic neuropathy. If you find out any more data please let me know. Good Luck!!!

I have just about the same symtoms as you. I have a burning , electric shock type pain in both of my feet. It is sometimes almost unbearable. Like yours, mine gets worse at night and I have difficulty sleeping. My regular doctor diagnosed me with neuropathy. I'm not diabetic and have a sugar level of 85. My doctor told me , that usually people with diabetis get this. My doctor prescribed Lyrica and Tramadol. The medicatiion worked well at first, but now I have the pain most severely at night and often during the day. It is worse after mowing the lawn or being on my feet too long. You can email me at [moderator note: e-mail address has been removed] if you wish, or if you have any new information that I can use. Good luck with your neuropathy. Henry

Hi man,
Sorry to hear about your sore feet but you are not alone.......i have suffered for 4-5 years now and have tried numerous remedies.......today i started hyperbaric oxygenation......100 euro's per hourly session.Almost immediately the pain went away?????strong painkillers only took the edge off the pain.....anyway back to the treatment,a whole hour passed painfree and i thought i was cured but after a couple of minutes outside the chamber the pain slowly started to come back and eventually the pain levelled off and it wasn't as bad as normal........they recommend you start with 10 sessions.
I will go back and have more sessions to see what happens because this unexplainable pain has driven me insane .......especially at night when i try and sleep.......it's nooo joke.I'm hopeful even if a little skeptic and man its expensive..........get back to you soon

i have been for 6 sessions of hyperbaric treatment now and would have to say there has been a major change in the amount of pain i have to endure......when i can afford it i will go back for more treatment because it definitely worked for........i now take 1 painkiller a day and when i go to bed at night i have a slight tingle but no more shooting pains......i also do a lot more walking since and think that exercise could be a big factor in the relief i am getting.......occasionly i take some lower powered codeine pills but the heavy drugs(tramadol 100mg ER) are being phased out gradually......I get better sleep at night and no longer scream out in pain at night time......the restless legs i used to suffer with are nearly gone to but from time to time they show up but thats about it.......Don't get me wrong......my feet are still a bit numb and hypersensitive but the pain has been reduced dramatically......i dont gete the shocks in my feeet and they dont feel somebody is tearing my toenails off anymore either......no im not on commision either.......i'm telling the truth because it worked so far.....its been 3weeks since the sessions and i cant say if the pain is gone forever but i am gonna get more treatment because life is hard enough without being somewhat crippled by the pain......thats how neuropathy affects me .....it takes my quality of life......you can always reply to this post if you need any info i may have and i will be happy to pass it on.

Yup -- that's what's going on with me.

I've dealt with this for quite a few years; the pain grew worse and I finally asked my Kaiser doc. She started me with ultrasound on my legs (huh?) to see if there was a vascular cause.

When that came back clear, she then made a referral to a neurologist.

What torques me is I suggested neuropathy as a possible cause months ago -- and now as I read more about it I see -- it can cause permanent damage.

I should get the evaluation in a couple of weeks, but can anyone share about what happens if you have permanent damage? Is the pain forever? Weakness in muscle tissue?

Thanks
