Please try the site poweroveryourpain.com.
After 4 years of neuropathy in my right foot, burning sensation in my right thigh, back surgery, cortisone shots in my back, my doctor referred me to a pain specialist that may perform this procedure. I am still trying to get an appointment for a psych evaluation, but this looks promising.

to me it doesnt sound like nueropathy, not saying that the tests are not correct, you sound like you have somthng else going on, not diagnosed. how many nuerologists have you seen?

I don't know much about nueropathy diseases, only that there are several kinds. I know nueropathy is linked with diabetes which runs in my family, and I am greatly concerned about as it can fester for years without major signs....just little sensations here and there. It seems like your immediate loss of feeling in your legs could lean more towards muscular loss, which conincide with M.S. , M.D. becasue those are "sudden losses of feeling". I know this becasue 3 of my young cousins (2 female and 1 male)have M.D. (all in the age range of : 35 - 45. They were attacked by M.D. at the early ages of 22, 26 and 29. There are 6 siblings, and only 3 (the eldest: male), his sister (4 years younger than him and a middle child), and his baby sister (10 years younger than him) contracted M.D. They all had some sort of degenerative back problems but the M.D. did not come until thery reached their 20's. They did not seem affected by their back problems (except for sports) too much when they were teens. No one in our family could ever imagined these seemily healthy kids could be stricken with M.D. at such a young age. They were treated for nueropathy too with little relief. I know M.D. attacks the muscles which has some of the same burning, painful numbing feelings because all 3 would complain of the same symptoms. They are not crippled to the point of wheelchair use but they each sought different methods of treatments. Some of them were: constant painkillers which took away his labido drives and kept him very tired and asleep most of the time (like a constant morphine drip), and he uses a cane or 3 pronged walker to help him. He is now 50. Another method: water aerobics 4 x's week which included hot tub jets and Vax-D treaments (that is a stretching of the spine 2x's/week) which pulls apart the spine relieving the compressed discs pressure and makes you stand taller and walk more freely) The ideal end result to this 6 week treatment only lasts about 3 months, then you have to wait 6 months and re-apply again for more extended treatments. This is very expensive and insurance only covers 1/2 of it. Another method to relief of degenerative disc pain is cement injected between the discs for permanant stabilization of the spine and continued normal flexability (meaning no bungee jumps or trampolines or other back related fun activities). Now getting back to the M.D. issue... one of the cousins had 4 children, which really adds more complications to the degenerative back disease, and has added additional risk factors to her existing M.D. condition. I am not trying to scare you into believeing you have M.S. or M.D. I just wanted you to know that could be something to look into because of the immediate loss of sensation you had in your legs when you were driveing, and now you can't hardly get out of bed without assistance. I saw this firsthand and I saw what happens to those who don't consider all realted possibilities to degenerative back problems. I might suggest that you read-read and read about Neuropathy and M.S. and M.D. and try to see a specialist who can run more tests and even see about the vitamin deficiencies caused by Neuropathy, M.S. and M.D. Maybe your body is not absorbing the right amount of vitamins and you may need supplement shots. Anything at this point is worth a try, no matter how far you think you are reaching "outside the Dr.'s professional opinion". I myself, personally worry about Neuropathy because my dad and grandparents had diabetes, and only one sought treatment, and I know Diabetes is hereditary. Get as many opinions as you can from several different specialists for muscle issues, bone denisty issues, inflammation issues. Get referrals from other people in your area (usually on a web-site for healthcare). I know health insurance plays a big part in all of these suggestions I am making, and hopefully your husband has a good plan. Whatever you do, don't stop believing you can fix this. Do a lot of research and stay determined and focused on getting back to your normal routine of things. I wish you a lot of luck and hope you find the right treatment becasue its your body and you know it best.

I REALLY THINK YOU SHOULD GET A SECOND OPINION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED CORRECTLY. I AM A 32 YEAR OLD FEMALE WITH 4 CHILDREN. I CAN TELL YOU FROM EXPERIENCE. NEUROPATHY PAIN IS VERY PAINFUL, CONSTANT BURNING AND STINGING FEELS LIKE ANT BITES AT TIMES FOR INSTANCE I HAVE NERVE DAMAGE TO RIGHT FOOT AND THE BURNING CAN BE VERY SEVERE AT TIMES. I DIFINITELY THINK IT IS SOME TYPE OF NEUROLOGICAL DISORDER SIMPLY RELATED TO THE NUMBNESS YOU HAVE DESCRIBED. SIMPLY ASK YOUR DR. FOR A REFERAL SO YOU CA N GET A SECOND OPINION.GOOD LUCK AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU, HANG IN THERE.
