Re: PNEUMOCOCAL MENINIGITESHow long did your initial symptoms last before you got so very ill? I'm asking because yesterday my neck got so stiff and painful I couldn't turn or lower my head. And I had headaches in spasms and rashes on my legs. I slept the whole day and today there is some movement in my neck and the headaches and rashes seem to be subsiding. So I'm thinking that maybe I don't need to see a doctor. Did your initial symptoms subside? I'm just afraid to see doctors.
Re: PNEUMOCOCAL MENINIGITESHi I would just like to say how sorry I am for you having had such a horrible deadly disease. I can relate to what you went through. In January this year I woke at about 3.30am with severe headaches, so severe that I felt like my head was going to explode, then came the constant vomitting. At 5.30am I finally made it downstairs and I remember still vomitting, froth as all contents of my stomach had gone, feeling hot then cold, shaking. My husband telephoned for a Dr. I was told it was a viral infection and all would be well in 24 hours. I knew nothing more until I woke in hospital the following evening. My husband woke me and asked if I knew who he was, I remember feeling frustrated as I could not say his name. Apparently, I was close to being in a coma, I was unresponsive, flopping around after laying on the sofa for 8 hours. I was lashing out the medical staff, ripping canulas out of my arms and delirious. I have to say the whole experience has been so traumatic for me and my whole family. I have lost all hearing in my left ear and have a small amount in my right ear. I have bad tinitus, which really gets me down. I find I am very short tempered now and am forgetful. Like a lot of people say I am lucky to be here but it has been so hard to adjust. I used to love listening to music but that sounds distorted now. I cant lie completely flat as I feel dizzy and feel as if I am going to be sick. I am unable to run or jump as it feels as though I am floating. So my advice to anyone with unusually bad headaches etc, telephone for an ambulance, time is of the essence with this awful disease.
