What to expect when/if stent is removed.

Post a new topicby First imer on Tue Apr 08, 2008 2:00 pm

Hey Fellow "Stoners",
Upon awaiting confirmation that the SWL has done it's job, I am wondering how they will remove the stent. Will it be an office procedure or outpatient? Will it be different being I am female from what I have read on the Guys??
Anyone know?
To those of you still suffering.. Hang on is all I can say, it sure seems to be a long road, I'm at 1.5 months and ready to shoot myself, some of you are way longer than that..
P>S.. Bruce, I also asked my Doc about the water issue, I got the same response you did.. He basically said, "Fluid is fluid, no matter what form". Not sure I completely agree with THAT idea, but thats what he said. Hope you are feeling better!

Hi
Don't be afraid of this procedure. Mine was in office and I was terrified.
I got myself all worked up over nothing. I begged my urologist to put me out and he said that for females it was not painful at all. He was right. Of course it was a relief to get it removed, because I
wasn't running to the bathroom all day long anymore:) Really, no discomfort during or after removal.
Much luck to you, and try not to be nervous about it.

Thanks so much for your support and knowledge, I have been terrified actually, ready to start begging to be put out as well.
You helped a lot!

Am I completely insane then? When my stent was removed it hurt like hell! It was EXTREMELY painful. Was something wrong? I am still in pain ... the stone was removed. The stent was horrific (didn't sleep for two days due to the pain and then they finally removed it). After the stent was removed I went home and wound up BACK in the ER with heavy pain meds. Apparently my ureter was so inflamed and in spasms ... it felt like I was passing another stone! Is it just me that had extreme pain during stent removal???

I also had horrific pain after the stent was removed. And it wasnt pleasant having it taken out either. I could literally feel the whole length of it being pulled out. About an hour later I was in excruciating pain as my kidney throbbed like crazy. 2 percocet every 3 hours for the next 12 hours.
