repeated eswlAs a patient who has suffered with kidney stone disease for more than 25 years I am now about to undergo my 10th lithotripsy for multiple stones in right and left kidney. Although there was no obstruction, I have 2 stones in my left mid pole and I have trouble sleeping on my left side as I get a horrible pressure pain that wakes me at night. I am concerned about recent articles regarding increased risks associated with multiple eswl procedures including diabetes and increased BP. Anyone have this experience or any comments? thanks!!
Re: repeated eswlI am curious, what type of stones do you have? I have suffered with recurrent stones since 1998 and there really seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. I have had eswl every year since 2004 and a couple before that. The damage to the kidneys and ureters is what I am reading.
Re: repeated eswlThe majority of my stones are calcium oxalate but I recently began making uric acid stones as well. My problem is the ESWL breaks up the larger stone but fragments remain in the kidney and over time grow into more stones that require the same treatment over and over again. I have been on hydrochlorothyazide and I think it should decrease calcium stones but with mixed success.I had my first stone in 1980 and continue to have problems as I feel there really is no definite idea as to why certain people make stones. Off to eswl again next week; better that than obstruction! Good luck as for light at the end of the tunnel, if you find one let me know:-)
