Newb. Stones and Lithotripsy?I am a 43 year old male and have passed kidney stones since I was 16 years of age. As such I am only too familiar with the severe pain they can cause.
However, a couple of weeks ago I practically passed out with pain in my left side and bladder like I have never known. I was taken into hospital by ambulance and had to be administered with morphine. After x-rays etc. the doctor confirmed that I had a large stone totally obstructing the ureter on my left side. I was advised that its size and proximity to my kidney ruled out simple surgical intervention and after several days of hospitalisation I was referred to a lithotripsy department. I had my lithotripsy treatment on 27th May 2008, and was told at that time that 2 treatments would probably be required to break up the stone. MY QUESTION IS:- Since my lithotripsy I can still feel pressure at the site of the blockage and I still have pretty severe pain in my left side, to the point where I stoop when I walk. I am really frustrated. Is this normal or am I just being a big girls blouse? Could it still be the stone?, after all I have still only had the one treatment. I'm so frustrated and just want to get on with my life and get back to work. Thanks
Re: Newb. Stones and Lithotripsy?I'm a female and have been having reocurring stones for 15yrs. I don't want to pass anything anymore. I went back today to my Urologist and he told me that my stone was to large to pass. He is talking with my other doctors and is going to decide about sugically removing my stone. That sure does sound like it would be easier. I also just finished a medication that I had to take for a little over a year, that my liver doctor had me on (for liver disease from a tranfusion). My doctor said that the medication I was on was known for causing stones. I already had this major one and a few other small ones. It almost tripled in size.
I don't think your a sissy for feeling this way. I understand.... My oldest son called me one day and told me he thought he was dying. I rushed to him to take him to the hospital and told him to start telling me what type of pain did he have. After he got through, I told him that he had a kidney stone. Sure enough, he did. They drugged him up real quick and told him that the pain was like having a baby. His wife rushed to the hospital and was in tears asking me what was wrong. I just laughed and told her she was going to be a proud mother of a kidney stone. My son looked up at me and said "All I can say is that if this is like having a baby, we were idiots for having more than one. We all died laughing. They sent him home with pain medicine and told him to drink alot of water that the stone was almost at the bladder. I took him a massage pad that uses sonic waves instead of regular vibrations. He passed it the next day.
