Well back in Oct. I had a large stone removed with PCN (KEYHOLE) in my right kidney had stent for about 3 months. I also had an infection 6 weeks after surgery. Went back to the Dr. for check up had a CT scan done because of feeling pain again and to find out I have 3 stones in the same kidney I am scheduled this time for uteroscopic on the 18th with yet another stent- I experinced horrible pain, discomfort, constant urination, back pain ,abdomen pain I'm just horrified I have to go thru this again this time for 3 stones and the Dr. can't assure me he will be able to get it all. I WILL NOT go for PCN again due to a terrible experience also its an out patient procedure but he did say if the kidney gets to beat up while hes in there I would have to be admitted. Has anyone gone thru this and if so how was this compared to PCN.

Where is the location of your stone? does your doctor recommend other ways to break the stone like ESWL (laser procedure) to break them into small pieces and pass them out thru your stent? ESWL is less painful and you can go back your normal activities sooner. Uteroscopy is the same procedure as inserting stent & you will be under anesthesia. Open surgery is the most painful treatment. I had an open surgery last April 2007for my right kidney since the CT scan found a 3.8cm stone and ESWL(laser) on my left coz I have 2pcs of 1.2 cm stones, I had a stent also after surgery on the right for 3 weeks. the surgery was sucessful but the recovery was so painful I cant barely move for almost a month and I had a 8 inches cut on my right to heal. It's been a year now and I'm fully recoverred, I just had my check up last month and I have few stones again on my left("here we go again") same case but luckily the stones were small in sizes so my Urology did ESWL procedure again and I think I passed them out already.

Well I had eswl for the large stone back in Oct. but the stone was to complex so I don't have that option this time. Oct.-Jan. was the worse time regarding pain I ever had I have 2 children both were born natural childbirth and this pain is 10x worse. I think the stent is the most painful part of these operations I am due for procedure on Wednesday lets hope they are able to get it all. When did you have ESWL did you have a stent? How are you feeling now?

I had ESWL procedure again last May 26, 2008 only But they didnt insert stent because the sizes are small this time but last year they put a stent on the right after the open surgery & had it for 3 weeks and had it removed after the ultrasound on the right was cleared and put another to the left before they do the ESWL procedure last year. I only had that stent on the left for a week coz I need to go back to work and its so uncomfortable wearing it inside....you cannot control urinating when you have stent you always want to stay near the restroom.....and it's painful ....urology said the stent should be exact in lenght to avoid the tip from touching other parts inside that's the reason it causes pain and it should only be placed inside not more that 3 months. I just hope your next procedure will get all the stones & you'll go back to your normal activities sooner coz I know how painful to have one inside.....
Good Luck!
