CystopyI know I spelled this wrong, but I have all the symptoms that all of you have for over a year now. My questions is can this procedure detect IC. I have had two of these, one by a urologist and one by a GYN and neither has mentioned IC Do I need to suggest this to them?
Re: CystopyUsually the procedure needs to be done under anesthesia to make a diagnosis of IC.
Re: CystopyI don't understand this answer. I don't understand how being under anesthesia has to do with a diagnosis. I was under anesthesia for the second one which was completed by the GYN doctor, he never mentioned IC. He does want to discuss a hysterectomy which worries me because I don't see how my symptoms would warrant a hysterectomy, but I am not a doctor.
Re: CystopyAnesthesia is needed to see how much the bladder will hold, if you were not under anesthesia it would be too painful if you had/have IC. Also you need to fully distend the bladder, called a hydrodistension , to determine IC findings. If you just look in the bladder with out distending it you can miss the findings of IC
Re: Cystopyyes, this procedure can determine an ic patient this is how i got diagnosed and yes preferrably you would want to be under anesthetia because if you are awake and the doctor does this (extends your bladder to your max capacity) it will be very painful. Also if you were to be awake the doctor won't be able to know what your max urine capacity is if you are to be in that much pain he/she (doctor) won't be able to expand it to that level. During mine he took pictures and later showed me my bladder wall being inflamed and diagnosed me as an ic patient. I still need help though no meds, recommendations has helped me, had $$$$$$ hydrodistensions done, tried meds: $$$$$$ elmiron, detrol la, macrobid, ditropan, etc., tried diet change and I don't know what to say but I have no life....my boyfriend of 4+ years got tired of all this and I can't blame him. Sex is just way to painful to bear.
If anyone wants to know I'm 27 female and have had this for about 8-9 years got diagnosed about 2 1/2 years ago, still holding on to a job but don't know how long cuz I keep going to the darn bathroom. Like everybody needs to know I go to the bathroom a lot right? Sorry just needed to vent. But I do hope you get the procedure done so you know if you have it. I was relieved to know what I finally have but totally let down that nothing so far has seemed to help me.
