I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia at 33 yrs old.On one hand it’s a relief to have something to call it;on the other It’s hard to be labeled.Looking back I’ve been dealing with this for some time and its been a hard long road, especially lately, bad enough to send me doctoring. When you consider yourself a strong person,it’s hard to admit you need help.I guess thats my first step. I have had fibromyalgia for years. At first the doctors thought it was MS. I have also been reluctant to jump on the RX wagon. A soak in a hot bath or shower gives me more temporary relief than anything. Regular sleep - as much as I am able makes a big difference in many ways. I also need at least one day a week of rest - that means doing nothing but reading and watching television and napping. A can of cola in the afternoon helps to clear my head and wakes me up enough to function in my office job. More and more I have gotten tired of hurting and putting up with it. I am tired of being tired when I wake up in the morning. I have finally started taking an antidepressant and a muscle relaxer to help me sleep and releive pain. An added benefit is that my restless leg syndrom has ceased. I am feeling better than I have in years. I am wondering what took me so long. Everyone has to decide what is right for them but sometimes being strong includes using tools to function better. I have had years stolen from me by FMS and I am ready for a break. I am ready to be funtional without counting the cost in pain. I would encourage you to consider available medications before you discard the option. The benefits may just outweigh the cost and save you years of unnecessary pain.
