stage 4 kidney failure

Post a new topicby rvrwnd on Tue Sep 04, 2007 11:14 am

I only have one kidney (the other never developed, from birth). The problem now is that my creatinine level is at least (if not higher now) 3.2 and the ultrasound showed 'masses' growing in my kidney. The nephrologist I was seeing has passed me onto a urologist but it will be another week before I see him. In the meantime, I am always tired and suffer from massive headaches and the side of my back is in extreme pain. I sleep all the time and am very weak. I called the urologist and tried to move up my appointment and I was told by the receptionist that there is absolutely NO way to move my appointment, and that all the doctors in that office know is when they have an appointment to see a patient. I was also told to call around and see if I could find another urologist To be quite honest, I'm just scared at this point. The nephrologist told me that if it was any other doctor, that I'd most likely already be on dialysis. I am only 40 years old. I've dealt with this since I was 4. My regular urologist retired and the doctors that have taken over his practice don't seem to really care. I've owned my own business for a while now, but I've lost all but my die hard customers because I can't do the work any longer. I don't have insurance that covers my condition, because it is always been viewed as preexisting. I guess it has always been preexisting since I was born this way. I don't know what I'm actually looking for from this, but I needed to tell someone what I'm going through. My family doesn't understand, because I look normal, they don't think anything is wrong with me. I don't have the second kidney to fall back on, and I don't know where to go from here.

If the masses are deemed cancerous then they will need to be removed, if they are small then perhaps they can remove just the masses and leave as much functioning kidney as possible. As you know the next steps if your kidney needs to be removed or your creatinine continues to rise is dialysis and/or renal transplant, good luck
